Tour Summary: If you only have one day, this tour will deliver coast, heritage site and a National Park! Your tour travels west to Pembrokeshire to the charming coastal town of Tenby and further west to Carew Castle for a guided tour. Mid afternoon travel to Mid Wales to the scenic Sennybridge with the return journey to Cardiff travelling through the central region of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Your tour departs from Cardiff at 08:30 to travel west toTenby. You will have ample time to explore the stunning coastal town, where much of the 13th century wall which surrounds the town are still intact, and stroll along the three sandy beaches and harbour. The houses are painted from the pastel palette of a classic fishing village amidst the white elegance of Georgian townhouses. The oldest furnished residence in the town is the 15th century Tudor Merchant's House which you can enter for a small entrance fee, take a walk up Castle Hill overlooking the harbour to enjoy panoramic views across Carmarthen Bay to Worms Head and the Gower Peninsular. .
Carew Castle, a magificent ruin stands on a low limestone ridge at the head of a tidal inlet of the Carew River and medieval bridge. The nearby Carew Meadows was the site of the last medieval-style tournament held in Britain in 1507, attended by King Henry VII, his son Arthur, wife, Catherine of Aragon and 600 knights. The castle's history is full of interesting characters to include Princess Nest, knight Rhys ap Thomas and Sir John Perrot who died in disgrace in the Tower of London. Carew also has the only restored tidal mill in Wales with a 23-acre millpond and a superb 4 metre tall 10th-century Carew Celtic Cross. Enjoy a tour of the castle and free time.
From Pembrokeshire your tour travels east then north enjoying fine views of the Black Mountain on the western region of the Brecon Beacons National Park and travelling north beyond the park to Sennybridge. Our journey travels south, passing near the edge of Brecon Town travel through the central region of the park.
Returns to Cardiff at 6.30pm approx.
